Summary:In this activity, students observe real fossils. The fossils are then used to make moulds. After the moulds dry, students can practice looking for the fossils by picking them out of a hardened mud mixture. Aster the activity, students should discuss how fossils are formed, where they can be found, and how they're used to identify the age of the surrounding rocks and soil. Students should also be able to say how geologists determine the location of oil and other fuels by using fossils as a guide.
