Organization:Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin (ICPRB)
Summary:This 15-hour workshop covers stormwater runoff, our fastest growing source of water pollution, as well as school-ground practices that can reduce pollution. We provide lessons and activities that teachers can adopt that lead students through school-ground investigations and assessments and the planning and installation of a stormwater-reduction project. Such sustainable practices include conservation gardens, tree plantings, rain barrels, and rain gardens. The lessons entail real-world science, math, mapping, graphing, and communications skills. The Score Four program addresses all Environmental Literacy and Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) requirements. Best for grades 6 through 12. Maryland teachers can receive 1 Continuing Professional Development Credit (CPD).
Subjects: professional development; water quality; watershed
