Summary:Water phases are color coded around the Earth. Cutout, fold, and paste. Download the PDF file. This satellite image was observed by the NASDA-developed AMSR-E that is carried aboard NASA's Earth-Observing satellite, Aqua. AMSR-E enables viewing most of the water phases on Earth (clouds, vapor precipitation, snow, sea ice, and so on). Areas over the oceans highlighted in bright yellow correspond to strong precipitation areas, and some typhoons in the western Pacific Ocean are also captured. Colors varying from aqua to dark blue indicate increases of water vapor and clouds in the atmosphere. Snow coverage, dry and cold land surfaces, and sea-ice distribution in both polar regions are also displayed in bright yellow.
Earth Science Big Ideas:Big Idea 5
NGSS Discplinary Core Ideas:ESS2.C
NGSS Performance Expectations:HS-ESS2-5; MS-ESS2-4; MS-ESS2-5
NGSS Science and Engineering Practices:Developing and using models; Planning and carrying out investigations
NGSS Crosscutting Concepts:Cause and effect: Mechanism and explanation; Energy and matter: Flows, cycles, and conservation; Structure and function
Subjects: nasa; oceans; precipitation; water availability
